My Story

Sunday, October 27, 2013

Although I claim it, I was not born in Texas. As the joke goes, "I got here as fast as I could." (Pa dum pum) I was born in North Carolina to two amazing love birds whom I love dearly and can also drive me insane. Growing up, I loved Texas and all it had to offer - lots of fun, friends, shopping, hot Summer nights and amazing Tex-Mex, just to name a few. I loved a party and did anything to have a good time.  This got me into a lot of trouble. I won't go into all the details here, but if you'd like some specifics or have questions, feel free to contact me. (I love a good chat!) For now, I'll just leave it at this... when I got married, my husband and I asked for those who felt led, to say a little something about us or our union. My sister said something along these lines, "My sister is a totally different person than she used to be. She was horrible. I didn't really like her very much at all." No lie. She really said those words. At MY WEDDING! Kind of paints a vivid picture for you doesn't it?

I am happy to report that the story doesn't end there. It gets better. Much better. For the past nine years I have been following my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. My husband, then boyfriend, took me to a church called Watermark where I discovered that this church was nothing like the "church" the media portrayed "a bunch of blue hairs that all think and act alike - total right wingers without a creative bone in their body and no brain to boot!" I could not have been more wrong. (PS. the mainstream media still has it wrong.) Authentic, Christ-centered  "Church" was/is diverse, young, cool, wise and accepting.

Christ has changed my life. He has given me a peace that is inexplicable. He has radically changed my views of myself, others and this world. He has challenged me, grown me and redeemed the years that the locusts have eaten. I have been made complete in Him. (Insert cheesy Jerry Maguire line here. "You complete me.") Apart from Him, I am nothing. It's true.

Why I Blog:

Eight years ago I left the 9-5 design and product development world to work with and support my husband in his photography business - Fish Fotography. Just two weeks later we found out we were pregnant with our first child. A lot changed in a very short time. My life went from 99% self to 10-15% self. Don't get me wrong, today I am still very self absorbed. But, working for my husband, having a child and following Christ has taught me a lot about my priorities and where they should be in order to find a true balance that works for me and my family. Upon having our second child, I realized that I was no longer doing the creative things I  wanted to do and had been gifted by God to do. I was simply watching others do them through the blogs that I was reading daily.

Pure and Noble gives me the opportunity to do all the things I love doing. I get to write, focus on design - interior and fashion, share crafts, share life, make friends and loads of other fun things.  I may not be good at all of them, but I enjoy them immensely.  They are all a part of who God created me to be. My goal is to honor my Creator now, rather than tucking my desires away in hopes of unpacking once my children have left the nest. Pure and Noble is my creative outlet. It's my time to focus on the things that make my heart sing. This benefits me, my family and hopefully the readers who drop by occasionally. xo

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.
